1. What is poetry? Based your opinion

-          Poetry is a written form that contains meaning in it and there are also sound patterns such as the high and low intonation made by the author through his thoughts, and his feelings to be conveyed to the reader

 

2. What are genres of english poetry? Give an example of each genres

Poetry is the first major literary genre. All types of poetry share specific characteristics. In fact, poetry is a form of text that follows a meter and rhythm, with each line and syllable. It is further subdivided into different genres, such an epic poem, narrative, romantic, dramatic, and lyric. Dramatic poetry includes melodrama, tragedy, and comedy, while other poems includes ode, sonnet, elegy, ballad, song, and epic.

Example :  romantic poems include Red Red Rose, by Robert Burns. All these poetic forms share specific features, such as they do not follow paragraphs or sentences; they use stanzas and lines instead. Some forms follow very strict rules of length, and number of stanzas and lines, such as villanelle, sonnet, and haiku.

- Although poetry is a form of self-expression that knows no bounds, it can be safely divided into at least three main genres: lyric, narrative, and dramatic.

 

 

3. what are genres of indonesian poetry? Give an example of each genres

Indonesian poetry genre such as

syair (traditional narrative poetry)

pantun (quatrains made up of two seemingly disconnected couplets)

gurindam (brief aphorisms)

hikayat (stories, fairy-tales, animal fables, chronicles)

babad (histories or chronicles)

Lyric poetry, namely poetry that contains the individual's inner outpouring of the poet with all kinds of deposits of experiences, attitudes, and inner moods that surround him Types of poetry are generally found in the realm of modern literature in Indonesia as seen in the poems of Chairil Anwar, Sapardi Djokodamono, Goenawan Mohammad, and others (Aminuddin, 1987: 135).

 

Descriptive poetry

In descriptive poetry, the poet acts as an impressionist on circumstances / events, objects, and situations that are seen as attracting the poet's attention. Types of poetry that can be classified in descriptive poetry, for example: satirical poetry, social criticism, and impressionistic poetry. Satire is also a poem that expresses the poet's dissatisfaction with a situation, but by satirizing or stating the opposite.
